Expedition Update! 2/24

Hello friends!

Our expedition came to a close on February 20th and we all left Big Pine Key on the morning of the 23rd. Our last full day on the boat, February 19th, we went out to Looe Key where we snorkeled all morning. The reef there is sprawling with life! We got to see some really colorful Parrotfish, schools of Blue Striped Grunts, Yellowtail snappers, Angelfish, all types of coral, starfish, a few Caribbean Reef Sharks, a Nurse Shark, and so much more. As we left the reef on our way to our last anchorage in Coupon Bight, we were accompanied (for a short while) by three dolphins that were playing in our bow wake! Such a cool sight and a perfect way to wrap up a beautiful day on the water.

Our last night was spent watching, possibly, the most beautiful sunset of the trip. The sky was filled with beautiful oranges, reds, pinks and purples as the sun went down. We all sat silently as we watched it all unfold, savoring every last moment. The next morning was slow rolling, and was filled with laughter, swimming, and calling friends.

We took down Eliza Sue’s masts and motored back into the channel towards her home slip. When we arrived back to our home base we unloaded and took the rest of the day to hang out and rest. Our next two days were full of cleaning all of our gear, cleaning the boat, consolidating our left over food, and trying our best to cool off in the heat.

We’re all on our way home now, but we’ll keep updating the blog! hopefully with stories from individual crew members on their favorite or most memorable moments. Thank you all for following along with us on this journey! We’ll update you all again soon.
